Guest guest
Dear Friends, I start this thread to find out whether anyone knows about the lost parts of the Hindu Vedas. In Vivekananda's speeches, one can find that he has talked about the original Vedas of sufficient volume to fill up a library but these were lost over the ages leaving what is popularly known as the four Vedas today. Since a new picture is emerging about the origins and the development of Indians as major players in ancient history, it is possible that the ancient knowledge treasurehouse of India that was lost in India still somehow survives out there in different parts of the world. Although any surviving parts of Veda may not go by the name of Veda, anyone noticing the similarity of thought could explore further to find out if they could be linked to the Vedas. It is also possible that these could have been translated into local languages. Or that they could be treated as sacred manthras used for special occasions only without knowing that they are part of the Vedas. A good example is Thai monarchy that uses Tamil hymns during coronation. Likely areas could be the middle-eastern languages including Hebrew and Arabic, books in Russian, Greek and Latin, Romania, Chinese, Tibetan, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indonesian etc but they could just as well be in any part of the world. If somone knows the ancient countries that the Hindus had direct dealings in the form of trade, cultrual exchange etc in the old days, it could provide a good place to start looking. Guest guest
The Bible as Veda from Bhakti Ananda Goswami Hare Krishna ! Sri Sri Lakshmi Narayana Ki Jai ! Ramanujacarya ki jai ! Revered Sathia and Assembled Vaishnavas of this Sanga, Please accept my humble obeisances, and appreciation for being invited to join this egroup. I pray that the Lord and His venerable Devotees may empower me to render some small service here. I have studied the Old Testament in both the Hebrew and the Greek (Septuagint and Apocrypha), and can tell you that these are both Krishna and Balarama (Vishnu) centric Vaishnava, and Shaivite-related texts. The 'Jewish' scripture in either form (Hebrew or Greek) is absolutely a Vaishnava record, with additional strong Shaivite associations. Apparently in the ancient Mediterranean region, Vaishnavism and sattvic theistic Shaivism were not so distinctly separate traditions as they are today. In fact, the very word for God's revealed knowledge in the Hebrew Bible is Yeda / Yada and in the Greek Bible is Oida. This is Veda ! Just as the supreme Deity's Names Yahu / Yeshi and Yishma in Hebrew are Vasu and Vishnu in Sanskrit, Yeda is Veda. Because the Hebrew characters for yod and vau (y and v) are nearly identical, and there was a confounding of the Phoenician and Archaic Greek letters for y and v, ancient Hebrew and Greek y and v words were often confounded. The 'y' and 'v' could also become a 'u' (or double-u - `w') sound, or the initial vowel sound of the word. Thus becoming Oida or Eido etc. The Jewish ('Old') Testament Yeda / Oida tradition is continued in the Greek Catholic Christian Apocrypha and New Testament where Eli-Yahu / Hari-Vasu God's knowledge is again called Oida / Eido hundreds of times. The English word 'idea' is from Oida / Eido. Together the yd / Oida word is used for knowledge, especially what is directly perceived or seen, over 900 times in the Hebrew and Greek Bible. This word is also specifically used in reference to Eli / Hari or Yahu / Vasu God's Self-revelation. In fact, like Sri Krishna's name Vedayah, the Jewish Deity is also called Yedayah ! These Names mean exactly the same thing in their various nuances as Sri Krishna's Name VEDAYAH. In fact, YEDA-YAHU may be translated as 'knowledge is Yahu', 'Yahu is the object of knowledge', 'Yahu is the Knower', or Yahu knows'. When Sri Krishna says in His Bhagavad-gita Chapter 15 text 15 "by all the Vedas I am to be known", or 'Aham eva vedyo' (vedyah, knowable), and that He is the Knower of the Vedas, it is clear that this includes the Biblical tradition of Yeda / Oida as well. This `vd' root for directly revealed or directly perceived knowledge has come through into modern English some very interesting ways. For example: VIDeo (fun to compare with vidya), VISion, WITness (one who has seen), VISta, VISual, and VISible. ID-ol is from ID-latria or 'adoration (latria)of what is seen'. This is a misreading of id- latria where ID actually means 'self' ! Thus the properly condemned 'idolatry' / id-latria is the idio-try of 'self adoration', not the Latria of the visible Form of God. IDea, IDeal (what is seen), WISE, WIZard, WISdom, WIT, WITTy unWITTing, and GUISE are all related to the root VID or VED. There are scores of other VID/VED or YED/YAD related words in other languages. The revealers of the Hebrew Yeda Scriptures (Bible)were called ROEH, which translates as 'SEER' exactly the same as the Vedic RISHI. Additionally some were called TZADDIC (Hebrew), which means the same as SADHAKA. The Greeks called the fire priests of the Biblical and Helios OIDA Traditions PROPHETAS. This word 'prophet' did not originally mean 'future teller', but was associated with the so- called Solar Monotheism fire sacrifices of the Mediterranean Region. By association with the ROEH / RISHI Tradition, 'Prophet' eventually came to mean 'seer' or 'future teller'. Originally, as the Biblical and Heliopolitan name for the fire priests of HELIOS / HRUS (Egypt) / ELIYAHU (Bible)/ HARI-VASU, PROPHET is obviously PUROHITA. In this way, the entire Greek or Hebrew Oida or Yeda can be commented on word-for-word from the 'Vedic' Vaishnava and Shaivite spiritual- theological and historical perspective. I have been trying to tell 'Hindus' about this for 30 years, but due to some leaders' extreme prejudice against Judaism and Christianity, my work has been suppressed. I have been in fact very badly treated by some 'Hindus' for even being involved with Judaism and Christianity. If anyone is serious to get beyond either European or Hindu Aryanist racism and religious prejudice to learn the truth about our ancient past as one people of God HARI / ELI / HERI (Egypt and Africa), please put aside any prejudice against ancient Semitic Tradition or Christianity, and read the Bible in the original languages of Greek and Hebrew. Compare what you find with both Vaishnava and Shaivite Sanskrit and Dravidian Bhakti sources, and if you are honest, you will have to admit that there are profound connections on every level. When will we overcome prejudice ? Lord HARI VASUDEVA (ELI TOVA-YAHU), Lord VISHNU / YISHMA, please save us from our divisive mundane, proud Id-Latria, our blind and blinding self-adoration, and unite us all in Your Love ! Amen Aum and HARE KRISHNA ! Aspiring to serve all of the devotees of the lord, your aspiring servant, Bhakti Ananda Goswami
