Why would we expect a direct reference to Srimad Bagavadgitha. After describing many paths, Lord Krishna concludes that Saranagathi (Prapathi) is the sure means: "sarva DharmAn Parithyajya MAmEkam saranam vraja....." The Alwars essentially taught the SaraNagathi or Prapathi as the only means. By asking the devotees to go through the Githa would only cause added confusion for they could take alternate paths and may not quickly reach the supreme abode. Moreover, Alwars saw Prapathi or saranagathi as the ONLY purusartha, and therefore, I feel that there was no necessity for Alwars to refer to Githa directly. Moroever, the divaya prabhandam although an essense of the vedas, have no quotes from the vedas. Jai Sriman Narayana! Narender P.
