Guest guest
Sri:mathe: Ra:ma:nuja:yanamaha!! Jeeyar Thiruvadigale: Saranam!! 'vira:dham ra:kshasam hathva: Sarabhangam dadarsa ha' Every thing Sri Ramaachandra practised helps the mankind with the ‘dharma sikshana’. Here it is said,“he killed Vira:dha and had Sarabhanga’s darshan”. By doing so it is made evident by Sri Rama that when one goes to visit elders one should not go empty handed, rather it is the duty of the visitor to go with a thing or a word or a deed that pleases and satisfies the host. Viradha tortured the rishies and disrupted their penance. Killing him would fecilitate Sarabhanga’s dharma:charana and would give him bliss. Rama took the gift of Viradha’s death to present to Sarabhanga when he visited him. Thus instructing dharma is Sri Rama’s greatness. Valmiki was so delighted that Rama himself practised dharma to teach dharma to mankind and so he used the exclamation ‘ha’. Later with Sarabhanga’s permission he went to the hermitage of Suthi:kshNa and from there he visited Agasthya and Agasthya-bhra:tha . In Sanathkuma:ra Samhitha Agasthya bhra:tha’s (Agasthya’s brother) name has been mentioned as Sudarsana. Generally one who has no name for himself and is referred by some other’s name is called ‘Agasthya bhra:tha’. In Ramayana his name has not been mentioned. On reaching the hermitage of Agasthya Sri Rama received a bow, a sword and an akshaya quiver. Indra intimated Agasthya that Sri Mahavishnu who took incarnation as Sri Rama to kill Ravana would be coming to his ashram and since He would be behaving as a human being, he(Indra) intended to supply the divine weapons required for him to kill Ravana and so kept them there in his ashram. Agasthya asked Rama to accept them. And accordingly Rama took them. While Rama was in the forest, he spent time with the Rishis living there. To be continued...... Jai Srimannarayana!! Ramanujamma Mudumbai, Ramanujadasi.
