However, having a wish to spend their lives in service to God is a more commendable path. Leading a life as Service to God shouldn't be limited to us but the desire should expand to witness such a quality in all the beings. Only Man can make such a wish ! Man's intellect should aid him in helping his fellow beings. Only then, is his purpose of life, fulfilled. Shastras say - Man should have the realization that irrespective of any being he helps, the Lord within , is the actual reciever and is the One who is filled with happiness. One lives just for the sake of the world. While another lives just to exploit the world. Why are there so many differences ? What is the force behind all of this ? - these questions are being researched for ages. Lord Krishna gives us the answers. Change of characteristics in a person, the different bodies that one acquires; all these are dependent on the qualities ( Gunas ) present while leaving the earlier body. "Gunasango:sya sadasadyo:nijanmasu". What are those qualities ? Those 3 qualities are Sathva, Rajas and Thamas. Realise that these three qualities are varied. How does each quality work ? What does it give ? How does it influence one's behaviour ? How do you suppress it ? All these have been clarified in great detail in the 14 chapter by the Lord. This conglomeration of qualities has been described by Lord as - "sadasadyo:ni janmasu ka:ranam " . "chaturvarnyam, mayasrushtam gunakarma viBhagasaha " - " Depending on the gunas ( qualities ) and the karmas, I have created the four divisions (chaturvarnyam )," so said the Lord in the 4th chapter. What are these four divisions ? To be continued... Jai Srimannarayana, adiyen ramanuja dasaha Vamsi Mudumbai
