Guest guest
Sri Krishna Parabrahmane Namaha: [This is the translation of Gita Jyothi Week No.35 (last week) Sloka graced by our Sri Sri Sri Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji in Telugu Bhakthi Nivedana ] Lord Krishna in the 14 Chapter said that he had created four different Varnas depending on the Quality ( Guna ) and Karma. Some people think that these four divisions are Brahmana, Vaisya, Kshatriya and Sudra. But our elders and our poorva Acharyas have classified all the Living Beings as Deva, Manushya, Thiryak, Sthavara. "I only created these four divisions" said Krishna. "So Lord Krishna, you have lot of partiality. Why have you created so many differences ? ". - "I did not create all these differences, depending on the qualities ( guna ) and Karma of a being I decide how they should live. We don't acquire qualities because of our desire or as a result of individual effort. In the prior life while leaving the body, the quality that is dominating - is taken by Lord as the basis for creating this new body; He embeds those characteristics ( Vasana ) which allow it to do such Karmas. This is the rule and the decision too. Thats why qualities play a very prominent role. We follow the path that qualities take us in. How does a person with Tamo Guna behave ? Which path does a person with Rajo Guna follow ? Which path does a person with Sathva Guna tread on ? - Lets understand these facts in this 35th week sloka of Gita Jyothi. There is a general saying in the world. All roads lead to the same destination. In reality, how can all paths lead to the same destination? If you travel east you end up in one place, travelling in a westerly direction you end up in another and in a different place by travelling in a southern direction. If one buys a ticket to travel East, and boards a train travelling West with the assumption that 'direction' is trivial, he will lose his time and money and end up farther than his original destination. All trains don't go to the same destination ! Hence if you decide which place you want to visit, you will know which path to travel in. Similarly do you crave for happiness ( Anandam ) ? Or do you wish for anger ? Do you want ignorance ? Not ignorance. Not anger. If all you want is hapiness ( Anandam ) there is a prescribed path for it. If you want to achieve it, you need to follow that path. "Sathvam" gives us hapiness. Increase Sathvam. Sathvam is increased by Mind ( Manas ). Strength to the Mind is given by food. Hence we have been advised to make sure that the food we eat is clean. A subtle part of what you eat forms a sphere of influence in your Manas. The Buddhi then stays in complete control. One can do good deeds. He can receive hapiness. "saththvasttha:ha u:rdhvam gachchhanthi" - one who has Sathvika qualities reaches a higher plane. Some people wear Namam ( u:rddhvapundram ) on their forehead. What does it signify? To be continued...
