Sri Krishna Parabrahmane Namaha: Jai Srimannarayana!

[This is the translation of Gita Jyothi Week No.38 Sloka graced by Sri Sri Sri

Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swami, in Bhakthi Nivedana ]

Regarding this Vaiswanara swaruupa there is a beautiful story in the 5th

prapaattaka of Chaando:gyam. Five great sages Pra:chi:na Sa:la, Satyayajna,

Indradyumna, Budila and Janu who all had the knowledge of the fact that the

element of energy that spreads inside and maintains the substances is called

‘vaiswaanaram’ and wanting to know about it more went to a noble soul called

Uddha:laka. He too not knowing fully well about this viswanara swarupa took

them to their king Aswapati. He honoured them well and made them sit and

inquired them about the upaasana they had all been doing. One of them said he

had been doing the upaasana of dyulo:ka as vaiswaanara.

Another said he was doing upasana on A:dithya as Vaiswanara. The third answered

that he considered the ‘pra:Nasakthi’ (life force) itself as the Vaiswanara and

he had been doing upasana of this in its va:yu ru:pa. The fourth sage said that

it is the stomach that digests the food we eat and so he had been doing upasana

of this stomach and the vaiswanara in the place of navel as a:ka:sa swarupa .

Another one said that little below the navel is called ‘pasthi’ and he had been

doing the upasana of the jalastha:na in the ‘pasthi’ as vaiswanara.

But the noble Uddhalaka said “Actually our feet are the base for all of us and

hence I have been doing the upasana of ‘prithvi’ as vaiswa:nara since the earth

is like the feet of the entire universe.” Aswapathi heard to them all and said,

“What you all have been doing is a good Upasana only but is it not a fact that

we are healthy only when all these are put together! So we should have mu:rdha:,

pra:na, chakshu, na:bhi and the digestive system there in. The excretory system

has to be there too. We should have the feet also. When all these are put

together we get an entire form. In the same manner the higher loka:s, the life

giving stars like the sun, along with them the life saving water and air the

earth we live on, all these put together – is the Bhagavath Swarupam. The Lord

has all of these as His divine body. You are taking a single particular part

of that whole body and doing upasana as Bhagavatswarupam. That’s not right.

When all of them put together is the divine body of Bhagavan. Our body is a

model for that.”
