Guest guest
Srimathe Ramanujayanamaha! Sri Jeeyar Thiruvadigale Saranam!! Till here in this sarga it is indicated how the king, purohiths and ministers should be. 8th Sarga: Emperor Dasaratha, the noble, virtuous and dear king to his subjects; and worthy in every respect was worried for being childless. He decided to perform Aswame:dha ya:ga to beget sons and discussed the matter with his ministers. He called Sumantra and ordered him to bring all his acharayas and purohiths. Accordingly Suyajna, Vamadeva, Jaabaali, KaaSyapa, the main priest VaSishtta and all came to the king’s court. The king worshipped them all duly. He expressed his feelings thus, “Till now I am not fortunate enough to have the happiness of having sons. Hence I wish to perform Aswame:dha Yaga All of you help me to perform it as prescribed in the sastras to get my desire fulfilled.” On listening to the king’s words VaSishta and the rest felt very happy and encouraged him and instructed him that it should definitely be performed and intimated all the necessary things to be procured for the event and told him that the yajna- aswam has to be left freely. They blessed him that his righteous wish would surely be fulfilled and he would be blessed with sons. The king was elated for their statements and gave orders to obtain the required things for the yaaga as recommended by his gurus; and to arrange for four hundred capable soldiers to safe guard the yaga aswam along with the rithviks like Adhvaryuvu. “Ayodhya lies on the southern banks of river Sarayu. So prepare the yajna bhumi to the north and perform Santhi in that area as per the recommendations of the Sa:stras. Ashwa medha yaga has to be performed by the kshatriyas only. But any errors committed during the yagna would result in a disaster to the king himself. So ordinary kings are not eligible to perforn this yajna. The learned vedics who are transformed into Brahmaraakshasas due to their misdeeds during the yajnas keep waiting to harass if any mistake is done in the yajna. If the yajna is corrupted, the king would be destroyed.” Saying so he ordered his ministers to make the arrangements with utmost care. After taking the king’s permission all of them left. The emperor went to his palace and asked his queens to observe deeksha.(penance). They all were happy. (In the next...) Jaisrimannarayana! Ramanujamma Mudumbai,Ramanujadaasi.
