Dear Devotees: Please accept adiyen's humble pranam:

Lets read, talk, chant about our Nammazhvar. Thursday is his Thirunakshatram.

In India temples celebrate this for one month, some temples for 10 days.

In various Vedic Centers in USA utsavam is being celebrated for 10 days.

At temples across USA, Nammazhvar will be receiving kainkariyams from devotees

and the priests tomorrow.

Who is NammAzhvAr (our AzhvAr)

=====================

• leader of all who have surrendered to Lord srIman nArAyaNa

• considered the feet of the Lord (srI satakOpan in all temples (Satari))

• all other AzhvArs are considered to be part of this AzhvAr

• bUthaththu AzhvAr – head

• poigai AzhvAr, pEy AzhvAr – eyes

• periya AzhvAr – face

• thirumazhisai AzhvAr – neck

• kulasEkara AzhvAr, thiruppAn AzhvAr – hands

• thirumangai AzhvAr – navel

• madhurakavi AzhvAr – feet

• rAmAnuja (emperumAnAr) – pAdukAs

• considered to be the amsam of visvaksEna – the Lord’s commander-in-chief

==================

What has he done/ given for all the devotees

========================

• did not speak till he was 16; after that spoke only to give us the

pAsurams (Veda Sarams)

• his 4 prabhandhams (the tamizh vEda) are considered to be the gist of

the sanskrit vEdAs –

• rg vEda sAram is thiruviruttam

• yajur vEda sAram is thiruvAsiriyam

• sAma vEda sAram is thiruvAymozhi

• atharvaNa vEda sAram is periya thiruvandhAdhi

• he is at the beginning of the AchArya parampara on this earth

• the vEda sArams can be learned (from a qualified teacher) and chanted by

ANYONE interested

(In contast to the Samskrita Vedas which have restrictions)

=================================

Other points that we may want to know about Nammazhvar

=================================

• in thiruvAymozhi, he predicted that rAmAnuja will be appearing on this

earth to lead all devotees of Lord srIman nArAyaNa in this kaliyuga

• this AzhvAr was the AchArya of another AzhvAr – madhurakavi AzhvAr

• for a temple to be considered a divya dEsam, the temple’s Lord should

have been sung by atleast one AzhvAr; this AzhvAr is special; all AzhvArs went

to temples all over India to see and then sing about the Lord in that temple;

for this AzhvAr, the srIman nArAyaNa from temples all over India came to this

AzhvAr in AzhvAr thirunagari, so that this AzhvAr could sing about Him

• in thiruvAymozhi, this AzhvAr teaches us the secret meanings of the

rahasya mantrAs (thirumantram, dvayam and carama slOkam) – AzhvAr in the 3rd

century, 3rd decade gives us the meaning of the sacred dvaya mantra – eternal

service to the Lord; in the 6th century, 10th decade, he gives us the means to

achieve that goal of service to the Lord – the Lord Himself, and our surrender

to Him

• in thiruvAymozhi, 8th century, 10th decade, AzhvAr teaches us about

service to the devotees of the Lord – He, in fact asks the Lord to give him the

fortune of serving the devotees of His devotees.
