Global Dharma Conference to be held July 25th to July 27th in Edison, NJ The largest event ever organized by the second-generation Indian American community will take place in approximately a week's time. The Global Dharma Conference will be held Friday, July 25th to Sunday, July 27th at the Raritan Exposition and Convention Center in Edison, New Jersey, USA. Youth volunteers all over the country have been mobilized in the hopes of exploring the unifying principle of Dharma and in establishing a dialogue on relevant cultural, political, and spiritual issues. Events such as the Global Dharma Conference are particularly important in our current social and political context, stimulating both community action and solidarity. In an effort to attract a wide variety of participants, the three-day conference offers an extremely diverse program of events. Respected figures such as the H.H. Dalai Lama, Swami Dayananda Saraswati, and Dr. Deepak Chopra will address conference participants; esteemedscholars such as Dr. George Sudarshan, Aaron Gross, and David Frawley will lead dynamic discussions; political leaders such as Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, Governor James McGreevey, and Congressman Frank Pallone will engage world issues; and entertainment personalities such as Mahima Choudhary, Manisha Koirala, and Goldie Hawn will be amidst participants. A variety of workshops, panel discussions, and meditation sessions will explore topics concerning the relationship between dharma and self, dharma and family, dharma and society, and dharma and creation. Exciting cultural events such as a Bhangra/Garba night and an international concert have also been organized to enhance the conference experience. Internationally recognized Pop-Star Apache Indian will perform live at the Friday night Bhangra/Garba event along with DJ Karma and DJ Gaurav. The Saturday evening international concert - Harmony through Music - will showcase the talents of renowned musical artists like Zakir Hussain, Shankar & Gingger, Shanti Shanti, Joseph Fire Crow, and STEM Dance Theatre. Zakir Hussain's mastery of the tabla, Shankar & Gingger's innovations with the violin, Shanti Shanti's original chanting of Sanskrit in song, Joseph Fire Crow's command of the Cheyenne flute, and STEM Theatre's Indian hybrid dance performance offer a unique blend of musical styles that will not only attract the predominantly younger generation conference attendees, but also members of the surrounding community that have been invited and encouraged to attend. Similarly, a cultural exhibition related to the theme of dharma will be open to participants and visitors for the duration of the weekend. Further conference details, including information on the varied programming and event offerings, can be obtained online at http://www.dharmaconference.org or by calling 732-744-0841. Considering the sheer magnitude of the upcoming conference, it is amazing that all efforts have been completely undertaken by youth volunteers. With over seventy chapters in college campuses across the country, Hindu Students Council (HSC) has provided the Dharma Conference Committee Inc. with the perhaps the greatest amount of volunteer support. In a truly collaborative and collective effort, however, over thirty other co-sponsoring and supporting groups have been involved, including Network of Hindu Minds (NetOHM) from North America, Young Jains of America (YJA), Hindu Student Forum Netherlands (HNFN), National Hindu Students Forum (NHSF) from UK, World Organization of Students and Youth (WOSY) from India, Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, Chinmaya Mission, International Center for Cultural Studies (ICCS), Sikh Sangat, World Buddhist Association, World Council of Elders of the Ancient Traditions and Cultures and many others . Embodying the principles of unity, diversity, and global consciousness, the Global Dharma Conference promises to be a fulfilling and noteworthy event. SMS using the Messenger;Download latest version.
