Guest guest
Source Deccan News: Sri Sri Sri Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy says that the main objective in performing religious rituals and taking a holy dip in the river is to develop a feeling of reverence towards the river. He reassured devotees that contrary to the belief that people who take a dip in the river only during the 12 days would get their sins cleansed, bathing on any of the 365 days in the year would have the same impact provided it is done with reverence in the heart. The Jeeyar said that the Indian practice of revering water as the source of innumerable benefits should be emulated across the world. He referred to scientists stressing the need for conservation of rivers and said that respecting them, as said in the Vedas, would have the same impact of protecting them. The practice being followed at Haridwar where thousands of people offer aarti to the river Ganges everyday is part of the Indian tradition of respect to rivers. "But the perception of the world whichhas drastically changed with people taking to the materialistic way of life and losing respect for prakrit should stop," the Jeeyar said. The practice of celebrating pushkarams every 12 years is very popular among the regions where the Godavari and Krishna flow and this is slowly picking up where Cauvery and Tungabadra rivers flow. In the North, those living on the banks of river Ganges, perform artha Kumbha mela for 6 years and Maha Kumbha mela for 12 years where they offer neeti deepalu as aarti to Nadeemathalli.
