Guest guest
Jai Srimannarayana! I like your teachings and I follow your lecture on Television. Recently in one of the groups I read that in Vedas there are instances of animal sacrifice. I definitely believe there must be some logic or some divine purpose in this particular karma kanda. Either it is wrongly misinterpreted by Western people or people with half-knowledge. I would like to know your kind opionion on this point. Though I have very good faith in Vedas these kind of arguments disturb my mental peace. So I thought you are the better person to guide people like me through this group. I request your goodself to clear our doubts and make us more confident in Vedas and Arsha Dharma. Kindly enlighten us with your answer please, Hari Om ! PS : I request all learned members in this group to clear my doubt.
Guest guest
Hi, I think you are referring to pashvAlambanam part of srauta sacrifices. Those things are not wrongly interpreted by Western people or by people with half-knowledge. The madhva sampradAyam uses pishTa pashu (flour replacement instead of real animals). rAmAnujachArya doesn't seem to accept this and defends the use of real animals (but only in the context of srauta yagnyas), beacause they are ordained by the vEdas and smritis (Reference: gIta bhAshyam of rAmAnuja; also tatparyachandrika of vEdAnta dEsika). Killing and eating the flesh of animals outside the context of srauta sacrifices and for self-gratification is categorically condemned in smritis (Eg. VishNu smriti).
