TTD decides to shift Gollabhama Mandapam

Monday March 8 2004 00:00 IST TIRUPATI: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams

(TTD) is likely to remove the ancient Gollabhama Mandapam to take up the

Mahaprakaram works in accordance with the revised Tirumala Master Plan.

The decision drew significance since the proposal led to several

controversies and even agitations by the devotees to protect the monument.

According to reliable sources, the officials of the TTD Engineering

Department have chalked-out a plan to expand the roads of four 'Mada'

streets, which would enable smooth completion of 'Vahana Sevas' during the

annual 'Brahmotsavams'.

In this process, they have decided to shift the Gollabhama Mandapam to

another place 'temporarily'.

The officials explained the same to Sri Tridandi Srimannarayana Ramanuja

Chinna Jeer Swamy, who reviewed the Mahaprakaram works last week.

The officials stressed the need for removing the Gollabhama Mandapam, which,

they said, was in a dilapidated condition.

They stated that they would construct the Mandapam at the same place after

the completion of other works.

The Jeer is understood to have agreed to the proposal and suggested to the

officials to take additional care since the Mandapam was an age-old

structure.
