Guest guest
Adiyen it is in fact a misconception that Shankarcharya was primarily opposed to Buddhism. Most of his polemic is written against vaisheshikas and other forms of the Shad-darshana. The decline of Buddhism in India occured after the Muslim invasion and destruction of Takshashila and Nalanda which were great centers of Buddhist learning. Shankara himself agreed with many of the core concepts of the Idealist Buddhist School. Hence Srivaishnavas say that he was a "pracchanna bauddha".
