NT Bureau

Chennai, Apr 23:

Gate-crashing into a function is a common phenomenon. But have you heard

about the reverse of it: Including popular persons in the guest list of a

function without their consent?

Well, the organizers of a function got up by a group of Christian

missionaries who have been going around propagating utter falsehoods as

'historical truths' have done just that.

This group of self-styled 'secular thinkers' has been going to town with

ridiculous theories like Lord Siva is a manifestation of Jesus Christ. This

group, claiming that it has done lot of research on the history of

'Dravidian religion', has also held several meetings and lectures on the

subject saying that Hindu religion is an off-shoot of Christianity after

Saint Thomas started propagating it here.

These self-anointed historians are holding a silent prayer meeting in

Mylapore tomorrow. The invitation card, for the prayer meeting at

Thiruvallur temple, says that several Vaishnava scholars, led by

Sriperumpudur Varada Ethiraja Jeeyar, will address the meeting.

As it happens, none of these Vaishnava scholars know about this meeting and

nor have been reached for participating in it. 'They have included the

Jeeyar's name and others probably for some publicity. They have not sought

permission before including Jeeyar's name in the invite,' sources in the

Maha Jana Sabha after speaking to Jeeyar today said.

Other Vaishanav scholars whose names figure in the list also feel that their

names figure in the invite just to give credibility to an otherwise dubious

function. 'There is an ulterior motive to all of these. This is all part of

the missionary activities,' Hindu Maha Jana Sabha sources added.

Others who are slated to address the meeting (according to the invite) are

Lawrence Pius, Rev John Deva Sagayam, Ezra Sargunum and R Victor Dharmaraj.

The organisers of this programme recently created a kerfuffle in the city

through posters pasted at prominent places that claimed Christianity is the

original Hinduism. But now they have gone one step ahead: They have

gate-crashed a party on unsuspecting souls.
