Guest guest
This response refers to the Hefner Vishnu article forwarded by raghu raghu (newyork). The Vishnu Idol, when enlarged, is appealing and has a charm to it. The Hefner article is somewhat journalistic, touching upon just the salient features. Even here, there are some inaccuracies, such as Krishna being described as the 8th Avatar, when in fact we say Krishna comes after Balarama and is the 9th Avatar. Rama and Krisha avataras are considred purna avatars. Also it has now been established that the discussion of “Hinduism” along Aryan/Dravidian lines is erroneous. What the short note does not mention is the Vedic background in which Vishnu cannot be “raised to higher rankings.” He is just that and has been occupying the highest place amongst the gods always. For us, Vishnu is Shriman Narayana, Sri Lakshmi sameta. Shriman Narayana has always been the beginning and the end, Vaikuntanatha. The divinity enshrined is the name of Sri Vishnu does not emerge from the short note.
