Enquiry sought into sale of TTD properties

By Our Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAH,

SEPT. 24.

The BJP State president, N. Indrasena Reddy, on Friday

demanded a high-level enquiry into the sale and

leasing out of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD)

properties to private persons at will and allotting

TTD lands for tourism promotion, thereby affecting the

temple's sanctity.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr. Reddy demanded

stern action against TTD officials who were involved

in handing over the temple properties to private

bidders.

Resolution opposed

He opposed the TTD board's resolution to sell or

auction TTD assets by a special notification, through

private convergence.

He also opposed allotment of land to the Tourism

Department on a 99-year lease on the pretext of

tourism promotion, mandatory renewal of the lease

later and empowering the Tourism Department to give

the land on sub-lease. Such actions would affect the

TTD temple's sanctity and the devotees' sentiments and

would not be tolerated, he warned.

The BJP president questioned the rationale behind

selling away the properties donated to the Tirumala

temple by four persons of Srikalahasti

-- Geetha, Rekha, Gayatri and Tirupati Rao -- who

subsequently committed suicide.

The district BJP president, K.V. Ramana Reddy, former

president, N. Bali Reddy, and leaders, K. Balachandra

Reddy, V.V. Chalapathi, B. Chandrasekhar, M.

Chandrasekhar Rao and S.V.N. Prakash, also

participated.
