Guest guest
Srimathe Ramanujayanamaha! Jeeyar Tiruvadigale Saranam!! Jeeyar Tiruvadigale Saranam!!! (14th sarga) The ritual horse (yajna:aswam) - that had been released a year ago went around the kingdom freely while being taken care by the four hundred royal warriors like Vara, Su:tha, Bra:hmani and Sangrahani, well-guarded by Brahma, Adhvarvudu, Ho:tha and Udga:tha, - returned to the capital. Then four rithwiks took it to the sacred place and conducted ho:mam at its four legs. Just a year ago in the month of Chaitra the ritual horse was released. After eleven months it was brought and tied to the ‘Aswaththa’ tree. In the twelfth month ie in the month of ‘Pha:lguna’, after getting the ritual-ground and the other paraphernalia ready, on the newmoon day (of the Phalguna maasa) they all entered the yajnabhumi accompanied by all the rithwiks. They started the yajna on the first day of (paadyami) Chaitra maasa. Rishyasringa was the main rithwik – brahma -- for the yajna. From that paadyami onwards for seven days the vedic scholars who were in charge of the yajna performed twenty-one homams for the king. The rithwiks who were proficient in the Vedas and their meanings, who mastered the Meema:msa sasthra and studied thoroughly the Kalpasu:tras were executing their assigned duties confined to their fixed places. Later they brought the ‘So:malatha’ that is to be used in the yajna. They had sanctified that with some rituals. The rithwiks performed the special ritual as ordained in the Bra:hmanam called ‘Pravargyam’ systematically and later conducted the ishti ‘Upasadanam’. Every ritual was organized in the most authentic manner as prescribed by the Sasthras. On completing the initial ceremonies they performed Praathassavanam, Maadhyandina savanam, Thrithi:ya savanam etc. Later they offered the ‘so:marasa’ kept in the vessel Aindram. Those containers are called ‘grahams’. Somaraja annihilates the sins. That Somaraja is invoked with stothrams and sasthras. That ‘haviss’ which had the Indra as the devatha was offered to him at dawn, afternoon and in the evening. The Somalatha is called the Somaraj. The So:maraj is placed on a rock. Brahma stood to its south, Adhvaryudu to the west, Ho:tha to the north and in the east Udga:tha stood and they all smashed it with stones and extracted the juice . All the Brahmins in the yajna conducted the homams in a meticulous manner. (To be continued...) Jai Srimannarayana! Ramanujamma M Ramanuja Dasee.
