Guest guest
Srimathe Ramanujayanamaha! Jeeyar Tiruvadigale Saranam!! As the yajna was in progress, the Brahmins were engaged in scientific discussions on religious matters. Question and answer sessions were going on with the titles of Brahma, Ho:tha and Brahmo:dyam. Eminent orators were putting forth their point of view by presenting the ‘pu:rva paksham’ and formulating theories on matters of sasthras to defeat other scholars. There was none among the assembled Brahmins who was not well read in Vedas and Veda:ngas. Neither there was any who did not follow rituals and vedic culture. There was none either incapable or inefficient of debating. Thus in that congregation a great number of erudite scholars were present. During the aswame:dha yajna on the day of ‘Oupavasadhyam’, they perform a ritual – apasuviSasanam. Prior to that, they erected ‘yupams’(posts) to tie those animals. Six yupams made of ‘maare:du’ wood and six of ‘chandra’ wood were fixed closely. Six more ‘yupams’ made of ‘mo:dugu’ were fixed at a distance. There were two made from the wood of ‘shle:shmaathakam’ and one made of ‘deodar’. There was a distance of two hands wide stretched between them. Thus the yupams were erected as per the dictates of the scriptures. In total there were twenty one posts each of the height of twenty one hands (jaana). Each post was decorated with gold plates and draped in cloth and then erected. The sculptors built them strong with octahedral surfaces which were smoothened. Those posts were glowing like the constellation of Seven Sages in the space. (To be continued…) Jaisrimannarayana! Rmanujamma Mudumbai, Ramanujadaasi.
