Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha!!

Jeeyar Tiruvadigale Saranam!!!

In the yajna they arrange an altar for fire using bricks. The size and design of

the bricks is suggested in the scriptures. Building of the stage for the altar

of fire is called ‘chayanam’. The rithwiks who had the previous knowledge and

skill in that sphere had designed the altar as per the recommendations of the

sasthras. The stage would be in the shape of an eagle. It looks like an eagle

sitting facing east, looking down, with its tail to the back and its wings

stretched wide. They constructed the altar in that manner and erected the posts

near it and tied the ritual animals intended for the devathas. Among those

animals there were snakes and birds too as mentioned in the scriptures. It is

required to keep one animal for one devatha. Among them some would be rural

animals, some forest animals and some would be sea animals. In that way, other

than the ritual horse, there were three hundred ritual animals tied to the

posts.

Queen Kausalya reverently followed all the procedures with firm belief in

Dharma. King Dasaratha would stand near that holy fire with utmost attention and

inhale the emanating smoke. That act eradicates all the sins. The sasthras

advocated that this action is a sure means to annihilate all types of sins.

Smelling of the smoke after the ‘vapahoma’ was the most important part in the

yajna.

To be continued....

Jaisrimannarayana!
