I have seen the following show on Zeetv. I flet bad

for people of Ayodhya. Politicians/Relegious parties

should also look at the problems of the people living

in Ayodhya before breaking or building any temple /

structure. TTD is breaking Tirumala for their self

interest. Politician will try to gain mailage out of

any issue for that matter. It is very sad that TV

channels and new papers are tying to defame His

Holyness Sri Jeeryar Swamiji. I feel very bad. can we

do something about it.

Special Correspondent: The illusion of Ayodhya

shattered

Report by: Abhishek Kumar in Ayodhya

Programme: Special Correspondent

Telecast: Saturday, 9:30 pm

Repeat Telecast: Sunday, 12:30 pm

Adaptation: Jigme Palden Pazo

The legend goes that Ram returned from exile to bring

prosperity, peace and happiness to his birthplace,

Ayodhya. It therefore serves as a tragic irony that

today, as the political leaders fuel the storm of

controversy in restoring the birthplace of Ram to its

rightful glory, everything that the Ayodhya of Ram

ever stood for, is what is being compromised beyond

recognition.

At the height of the election frenzy raging in the

nation, Special Correspondent shatters the façade

around one of the hottest election issues to expose a

reality that is a stark contradiction. Zee News

Correspondent Abhishek Kumar journeyed into the fabled

hot bed that Ayodhya has been created into and

discovered the real picture that couldn’t be further

removed from the Ayodhya that the nation’s media

continues to brandish.

For a place that is alleged to be the epitome of the

Hindu-Muslim factionalism, Ayodhya in reality is

completely at peace with its dual diversity. The

communal harmony that the two communities of Ayodhya

live in, could in fact set an example for the rest of

the country, if not the world to emulate.

Almost 90% of the locals that the Correspondent spoke

to were convinced that the image of Ayodhya being

hyped in the media is completely at odds with the

reality here. No matter what their caste, religion or

economic strata, the belief was unanimous.

Even Satendra Das, the chief priest of the main temple

in Ayodhya, the Ram Lala Temple, located adjacent to

the disputed land, was equally firm in his belief. He

also had an unfavourable impression of the political

parties exploiting the so-called cause of Ayodhya. He

is only too well aware that they haven’t the slightest

concern for the actual temple but are only

capitalizing on it for political gains. Furthermore he

feels that the only solution to solving the temple

issue is through proper dialogue between the two

communities.

The actual population living in Ayodhya is far more

concerned about more pressing matters in their lives

than which religion should prevail over the other in

claiming the disputed site. Inspite of the place

having prominently featured under the nation’s

spotlight for the last one and a half decade,

development of the town continues to be blatantly

ignored.

It comes as a great irony, therefore that the nation’s

politicians ride to power on the name of Ayodhya when

there is precious little being done for the place

itself. In fact prior to the media circus, there were

at least the religious tourists bringing in some

revenue for the local population. Now however with

controversy raging, these tourists have disappeared.

The most telling indication of the lack of development

in Ayodhya is borne in the simple fact that the people

are so jubilant about a recently constructed railway

bridge on the Saryu river. For a place that sees no

development of any kind, this bridge was cause enough

for jubilation.

The inhabitants of Ayodhya are all too aware of the

bleak future that awaits the future generation devoid

of progress in the socio-economic sphere. They may not

be downright against the idea of building a temple at

the disputed site, but not at the price that they have

been made to pay for the last decade and a half.
