Dear All,

I have a specific question in the mahabharta war: Ashwathama had a boon to be

Amar - meaning to live for ever and not die from anything. How come when "

Yudhisthtira says: Ashwathama ha to va iti kunjara", and Drona takes the shastra

sanyas and gets killed by Drushtadyumna? Did Drona not know whether Ashwathama

has had no death or could not be killed? Can any one who knows well this answer

please answer??

Priya Sriman Vasuji!

Jai Srimannarayana!

We are happy for your interest in knowing this. Yuddhishttira said "aswattha:ma:

hatah" loudly and 'kunjaraha' slowly. It was a true statement though, because,

bhimase:na, killed an elephant named after aswattha:ma. Inspite of Dro:na's

knowing that his son was a chiranji:vi, means 'no death', that environment

around him, made to forget about it. Suddenly he believed it for a second, and

that was the time he dropped him bow and pandavas killed him, within no time.

Suddenly hearing the news, that too in a war field, where so many people were

being killed every now and then, made him believe it.
