Guest guest
QUESTION) Dear Friends, As both thennacharya sampradaayis as well as vadakalaiyars accept Ramanuja dharsanam, why do we have following differences? 1. Head of Thennacharya sampradayis name themselves as "Jeeyar" 2. Head of vadakalaiyars name as "nihamantha mahadesikan" 3. How is "vedantha mahadesikan" different from "nihamantha mahadesikan"? Can anyone clarify? Thanks, Srinath ANS: IF BOTH ACCEPT RAMANUJA ONLY THEN THERE IS NO PROBLEM AT ALL. VADAGALAI PEOPLE SAY THAT THEY FOLLOW VEDANTHA DESIKA ONLY. THEY STARTED CALLING THEIR SAMPRADAYAM AS DESIKA SAMPRADAYAM ONLY INSTEAD OF RAMANUJA'S. LITERALLY, VEDANTHA AND NIGAMANTHA - BOTH THE WORDS CARRY THE SAME MEANING. YATHIS OF BOTH THE CULTS ARE CALLED JEEYARS ONLY. VADAGALAI PEOPLE WANT TO SEPARATE THEM FROM THE MAINSTREAM.
