Govindaraja Brahmotsavams begin

Tuesday May 17 2005 11:49 IST

TIRUPATI: Amidst the chanting of vedic hymns, Dwajarohanam ritual was performed

on Monday to mark the beginning of the nine-day Brahmotsavams of Sri

Govindarajaswamy temple.

Earlier in the day, the utsav deity of Sri Govindarajaswamy was taken out in a

procession on ‘Bangaru Tiruchi’. The deities of ‘Chakratalvar’ and ‘Parivara

devathalu’ also formed part of the procession.

In the evening, priests performed ‘Unjal Seva’, wherein the richly decorated

deity was placed in the Vahana Mandapam and special pujas were performed.

However, the eagerly awaited procession of the Lord on ‘Peddasesha Vahanam’

began at 8 pm. Scores of devotees thronged the temple to be part of the

procession.

SECURITY BEEFED UP: Personnel of the Special Protection Force (SPF) and the town

police made elaborate arrangements to control the crowd during the procession

and to prevent any untoward incidents.

Policemen were posted all along the procession route and movement of vehicular

traffic was also restricted to permit an unhindered passage to the procession.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Executive Officer APVN Sarma, joint

executive officer N Mukteshwara Rao, deputy EO P Rama Rao, local temples AEO K

Muniramaiah and other officials were present.
