Guest guest Posted May 17, 2005 Report Share Posted May 17, 2005 Govindaraja Brahmotsavams begin Tuesday May 17 2005 11:49 IST TIRUPATI: Amidst the chanting of vedic hymns, Dwajarohanam ritual was performed on Monday to mark the beginning of the nine-day Brahmotsavams of Sri Govindarajaswamy temple. Earlier in the day, the utsav deity of Sri Govindarajaswamy was taken out in a procession on ‘Bangaru Tiruchi’. The deities of ‘Chakratalvar’ and ‘Parivara devathalu’ also formed part of the procession. In the evening, priests performed ‘Unjal Seva’, wherein the richly decorated deity was placed in the Vahana Mandapam and special pujas were performed. However, the eagerly awaited procession of the Lord on ‘Peddasesha Vahanam’ began at 8 pm. Scores of devotees thronged the temple to be part of the procession. SECURITY BEEFED UP: Personnel of the Special Protection Force (SPF) and the town police made elaborate arrangements to control the crowd during the procession and to prevent any untoward incidents. Policemen were posted all along the procession route and movement of vehicular traffic was also restricted to permit an unhindered passage to the procession. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Executive Officer APVN Sarma, joint executive officer N Mukteshwara Rao, deputy EO P Rama Rao, local temples AEO K Muniramaiah and other officials were present.
