Guest guest
Sri Raghunandana ParabrahmaNenamaha! Jeeyar Thiruvadigale Saranam!! At the time of SriRama’s incarnation all the celestials – devathas, gandharvaas, apsarasas - rained flowers with joy. The dundubhies’ (drums) rhythm filled the air. All the people of Ayodhya were immersed in happiness. In every street of Ayodhya, the people, actors, dancers and singers were giving performances. The king presented suitable gifts to his servants, suutas, maagadhas and vandhas. He felicitated them all in his happiness on getting sons. He gave cows and wealth to the Brahmins. After eleven days passed, on the twelfth day the naming ceremony was performed. VaSishta was the priest. Happy on the Emperor having sons, he named the eldest son as ‘Rama’, Kaikeyi’s son as Bharatha and Sumitra’s sons as Lakshmana and Satrughna. The names were not meaningless like the general names of public. Vasishta being aware of the past and future, named him Rama for he knew that he would give happiness to all…..ramayathi – ithi – raamaha. Not only that, the yogis meditate on him and derive happiness – so he was named Rama. He is such a noble soul having such wonderful nature. The letter ‘RA’ contains ‘agni beeja’ in it. The letter ‘MA’ contains ‘amritha beeja’ in it. So when the letter Ra is uttered all the sins would get eradicated and by uttering Ma one would attain ‘eternity’. Surrender to Ramanaama wipes off ego and attachment. It is the means for ‘Moksha’. In the word ‘rama’, as per the place of the letter in the alphabet, Ra is the second and Ma is the fifth. As the sastric custom goes, it is the practice to write the numbers in this way and then reverse the digits. Then 25 becomes 52. The letters are fifty- two in number. Rama is the ‘One’ known by the whole mass of letters. Every sound refers to Paramathma alone who dwells in the Jivas that in turn dwell - in the mundane bodies that are prone to change. So all the sounds refer to Bhagavan alone. Because Sri Rama is Sri Mahavishnu, all the sounds (Sabdaas) become his names, the maharshi named him ‘RAMA’. (To be continued........) Jai Srimannarayana! Ramanujadaasi.
