Guest guest
Order probe, dump report K SREEDHAR RAO TIMES NEWS NETWORK[ SATURDAY, JUNE 11, 2005 11:05:01 PM ] HYDERABAD: Endowments minister M Satyanarayana Rao had ordered a vigilance inquiry on February 24, 2005 to probe some allegations against former endowments commissioner Ajeya Kallam between 2000-2002 and also certain charges against him during his tenure as executive officer, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams. The probe was ordered based on an anonymous petition to the government. But the minister himself had closed the file bearing No C No 8823/Vig.IV/05 within days after the inquiry report was submitted despite a strong recommendation for action against the officer from the government side. Normally, the government is not supposed to entertain any anonymous petitions against all-India service officers and there are few instances wherein an inquiry was held against an IAS officer merely based on some unknown petition. It is surprising why the minister had ordered a probe and then closed it, a top government officer told the Sunday Times of India. A Vigilance Officer (VO) looked into 11 allegations and submitted his preliminary report to the government recently. However with regard to the sale of land in Srikalahasti, the inquiry report found out some lapses. Based on the interim report, the revenue secretary recommended action against the IAS officer. But the minister reportedly summoned the file and closed it.
