Sri Raghunandana ParabrahmaNe namaha!

Srimathe Ramanujayanamaha!!

Thus all the four names were meaningful. After their naming ceremony was over, a

feast was arranged for the Brahmins, city dwellers and the rural folk. The king

donated lots of gems to the Brahmins. Among the four kids, Rama was Dasaratha’s

darling son. They all grew up and learnt Vedas. They participated in the

community’s welfare activities. They were great intellectuals. Noble qualities

were their ornaments.

Among the princes Rama was the most resplendent and delightful like a moon among

stars. He was righteous. He was an expert rider of horses and elephants and a

skillful charioteer. He was a specialist in the art of archery. He was dedicated

in obeying his father’s words.

Lakshmana was very much attached to Rama and loved him a lot. They could never

be aloof. Lakshmana was always engrossed in giving comfort and happiness to Rama

not caring for his own self. He was bent on serving him ignoring his own

comfort. As babies they never tolerated separation and slept well only when they

were put together. Rama did not go to sleep till Lashmana was with him. Whenever

food was offered, Rama used to reject it however tasty it might be, if not given

to Lakshmana too.

Purushotthama Rama did not even sleep anytime without Lakshmana. Did not accept

whatever tasty food brought to him if Lakshmana was not there. Lakshmana loved

Rama - no doubt about it. But Rama’s love for his brother was even more. The

reason for this will be explained in the later kaandas. Maari:cha tells Ravana

‘Ramasya dakshiNo baahuh nithyam praaNo: bahischaraha’

– ‘ Lakshmana is Rama’s right hand, his life that travels outside.’

To be continued..
