TTD to construct shrines in four metros: Official

 

Tirupati, Aug 10 : The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has proposed to

construct shrines for Lord Venkateswara in Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, a

top TTD official said today.

 

The construction work on the shrines would begin after land acquisition, said

TTD Executive Officer A P V N Sharma at the Sri Govindarajaswamy Temple here.

 

Mr Sharma said he had recently called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J

Jayalalithaa seeking land for the construction of the shrine.

 

At the TTD's information centre in Chennai, only 'aarthi' was being performed to

the idol, as no consecration was performed.

 

The TTD proposed to consecrete the idol at the proposed shrine.

 

Asked why he was terming it a ''shrine'' instead of temple, Mr Sharma said in a

shrine there would be no sevas but only ''aarthi'' would be offered, hence they

could not be called temples.
