King Janaka's messengers left for Ayodhya and they traveled for three nights

without rest to reach their destination. With king Dasaratha's authorization,

the ambassadors' of King Janaka entered the palace and with enormous regard

said, "Your majesty Dasaratha! The King of Mithila, Janaka is asking about your

welfare and prosperity of your country, including your priests and teachers.

With Brahmarishi Visvamithra's permission king Janaka told us to inform you the

following words. "King Dasaratha! You are aware of my promise that my daughter

Sitha is to be given as a reward for bravery and well-known kings have tried and

failed to lift the famous Siva Dhanus and returned home disappointed and

discouraged. Your courageous son Ramachandra arrived at Mithila unexpectedly

along with his younger brother Lakshmana and Sage Vishvamithra. While attempting

to pick up that bow your noble son Ramachandra wrecked that divine bow in the

middle, in front of a grand assembly of people. As a reward for this great feat

we are willing to propose my daughter Sitha to your noble son Ramachandra and we

are very keenly expecting your consent. Along with your priests and with other

teachers, I would like to invite you to come to our great city of Mithila."

King Dasaratha was very pleased with the message from the ministers of Mithila

and called Vashishta, Vamadeva and other ministers and said, "While Kausika's

son Vishvamithra was protecting, Rama and his brother Lakshmana, in Janaka's

assembly by showing his valor, Rama broke the divine bow, and for his grand

accomplishment, as a reward king Janaka is offering his daughter Sitha to

Ramachandra. If you are all in favor of king Janaka's message, we will quickly

proceed to their city without a delay. Vashishta and all other ministers

approved for this proposal with immense pleasure. Highly pleased king Dasaratha

decided to depart for Mithila the next day along with the queens; ministers etc.

and offered all the comforts of home to the convoy of King Janaka during their

stay in Ayodhya overnight.
