RAMANUJA WAS unhappy with the interpretations given to the Vedic texts by the

Advaita scholars like Yadavaprakasa, his first guru.

 

He became a follower of the Sri Vaishnava Acharya, Alavandar, and succeeded him

as the head of the Sri Vaishnava sect.

 

He wrote a commentary on the Brahmasutras called the Sri Bhashya.

 

His elucidations are based on the philosophy contained in the 4000 verses of the

Azhwars, the bedrock of whose philosophy is the `Sarira-Sariri Bhava' postulated

in the Vedas. The Tamil verses are said to be the translations of the Vedas.

 

Anantharangacharya has given in Kannada a detailed account of Ramanuja's

treatise that will enable those ignorant of Sanskrit to get a good idea of the

Acharya's system.

 

Added to this exposition is a very good Kannada translation of Yatindra Matha

Deepika by Srinivasa, a disciple of Doddayacharya. This work explains Ramanuja's

philosophy in simple terms.

 

The author has reprinted this volume which was published nearly 30 years ago. It
