Guest guest
Dams overflowing at Tirumala Tirupati, Nov 22: The Papavinasanam dam and Aakashganga dam on the hills here have been overflowing with the uninterrupted heavy rains that continued to lash the twin temple towns-Tirupati and Tirumala and its vast dense forest areas for the second day today following the depression in the Bay of Bengal. Two crest gates each atop the dams have been lifted this evening as the dams have been receiving copious inflows into it from the catchments. The second ghat road leading to the temple of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala had experienced landslips and falling of huge boulders at several places due to the rains. A portion of parapet wall was also collapsed at hairpin bend 24 on the first ghat road leading to Tirupati from the hills, temple sources said. However, the vehicular traffic was not affected on the ghat roads as the debris was being cleared by the TTD engineering staff. Meanwhils, as a precautionary measure, the TTD today decided to close the ghat roads for about five hours from 10 PM to 3 PM for the day, the sources added.
