Keep off TTD affairs, BJP tells Government

TIRUPATI: The Bharatiya Janata Party took strong exception to the increasing

interference by the Rajasekhara Reddy Government into the affairs of the TTD

though it is supposed to be an autonomous institution governed by an

independent Act of its own.

N.V.S.S. Prabhakar, State Secretary of the party and also Convener of the

party's Temple Properties Protection Committee was highly critical about the

reported Government attempts to thrust on the TTD the multi-crore aerial

ropeway project without any regard whatsoever for the scriptural restrictions

and the media and the pilgrim outcry against the work.

Scriptural sanction

Talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday he cited scriptural sanctions against

letting anything overfly the holy shrine and/or the holy hill as such because

vedas and sasthras-- to be specific `Narayana Kavacham' categorically forbade

any human intervention on the skies over the temple and the entire hill for

that matter because celestial bodies are supposed to be moving around the

place.

He also recalled how the project had been shelved by the previous Government

in the wake of hue and cry from the Mathadhipathis and Peethadhipathis and

wondered why the Rajasekhara Reddy Government should now try to dabble with the

project much against the wishes of all.

TTD funds

Mr. Prabhakar also strongly criticised the Government allegedly siphoning

away the TTD funds for setting up the Veterinary University at Tirupati

violating the TTD rules that its funds contributed by the devotees into the

hundi should not be used for any secular and non-religious activities.
