Guest guest
Sri: Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha Pranam to all devotees: DWAYAM. PART I Continued In sloka five and six, Sri Bhattar svami teaches the meaning of the Dwaya-mantra. This mantra consists of two parts: Purva Khandam: SrimanNaaraayana Charanau Saranam PrapadyE Uttara Khandam: Srimate Naaraayanaaya namaha So far we have covered: (see previous post, Astasloki 9 and 10) *1.* *Nay-thrith-vam* - Sri. *2. Nithya-yogam *- 'math' *3. Samuchitha guna jatham* - 'Naaraayana' *4.* * Thanukyaa- panam* - 'Charanau' *5 Upayam *- 'saranam' *6 Karthavya bhagam *- 'Prapadyey' All the above six points are given to explain the first sentence of the Dwaya Mantra. (Poorva kandam). Let us continue with the Uttara Khandam: *Srimate** Naaraayanaaya** namaha* * (7) Mithuna param prapyam* - 'Sri" + 'Math' The second sentence of the Dwaya Mantra precisely makes request for rendering service to the Holy couple Sriman Narayanan and Sri Mahalakshmi. While explaining the first sentence the word 'Sri' and the next word 'math' were explained and the same meaning is applicable here as well. The word 'Srimathey' means, one who is always with Sri Mahalakshmi (Peria Pirattiar). Though the stress is on the united position of Lord and Mahalakshmi in both the sentences (Poorva Kandam and Uttara Kandam), the purposes are different. In the first sentence (Poorva Kandam) it is for the purpose of recommendation by Mahalakshmi (Purushakaram). In the second sentence (Uttara Kandam) the united position of Lord and Sri is for receiving the services (kainkariyam). That is we render service to Lord as well as to Mahalakshmi. Here Mahalakshmi enjoys/receives our service along with Lord. According to Swami Pillai Lokachariar there are several functions to Sri Mahalakshmi. *(tham prap-yai-yu-mai kainkarya varthakaiyu-mai irukkum)*. She has to recommend the jeevas despite their sins/drawbacks for acceptance by Lord; she has to receive the service (kainkaryam) along with Lord for the purpose of making the service worthy of acceptance by Lord; and also to multiply the services as seen by the Lord. In the first role (recommendation) her presence is there so that no one should lose His grace. Sri Mahalakshmi is concerned about all the jeevas In the second the role she has to ensure that the services are fit enough for the Lord and multiply the services more and more. She is able to achieve all these things by her persuasive words with the Lord and by blessings and beneigh look or teachings to Jeevas. continued in the next post. -- Azhvar Emberumanar Jeeyar Thiruvadigale Saranam VP Srinivasa Varadan
