Sri:

Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha

Pranam to all devotees:

DWAYAM. PART I Continued

In sloka five and six, Sri Bhattar svami teaches the meaning of the

Dwaya-mantra. This mantra consists of two parts:

Purva Khandam: SrimanNaaraayana Charanau Saranam PrapadyE

Uttara Khandam: Srimate Naaraayanaaya namaha

So far we have covered: (see previous post, Astasloki 8 and 9)

*1.* *Nay-thrith-vam* - Sri.

*2. Nithya-yogam *- 'math'

*3. Samuchitha guna jatham* - 'Naaraayana'

*(4) Thanukyaa- panam* - In the Dwaya Mantra, the feet of Lord is mentioned.

When feet are mentioned it represents the whole body. The body of Lord Narayana

is resting place of the recommendatary authority, Sri Mahalakshmi and the centre

for all the qualities attributed to the word 'Narayana'. The form and body is

all auspicious (divya mangalam) These meanings are indicated.

*(5) Upayam *- The word 'saranam' in the Dwaya Mantra is explained. The means to

attain Lord is his feet. The axiom 'upayam' and 'upayyam' are Lord is borne out.

*(6) Karthavya bhagam* - The verb in the Dwaya Manthra, 'Prapadyey' is

explained here. The word means that I take refuge. For getting protection or

receiving the grace the jeeva has to make a request. This has to be in any one

of the three ways, by action, by word or by mental thinking. The Sastras

prescribe that the request has to be in the form of menta realization. (Jnanan

moksham)

Therefore, the mental realisation and request is indicated here. The acceptance

of the protection provided by Lord and having faith in Him is the requirement on

the part of Jeevan.

All the above six points are given to explain the first sentence of the Dwaya

Mantra. (Poorva kandam).
