Brihat Samhita gives similiar effects you mention, turbulent atmosphere, high winds, dryness, fires, etc. The effect is either (both) via the tail flux, or ducting the solar corona and have pictures of this ducting though it will be close to the Sun on the opposite side of Earth. The texts give general rules for their effects based on position & duration of visability. Gorden Michael Scallion has predicted there will be a Blue Comet that whipes out most of the electrics and magnetic media, very soon. And to have an underground place. Is this comet the one?
