Monday, October 11, 1999 DeSoto, Kansas

The Hare Krishnas lauded a landmark decision by the Kansas

Board of Education to reject the theory of evolution as a

scientific principle in state curricula. Monday's public forum

drew citizens, professors, religionists and media alike to lively

debate on this critical issue. Representing the International

Society for Krishna Consciousness, Danavir Goswami congratulated

the Board by reading a letter from Drutakarma Dasa (aka Michael

A. Cremo) and presenting to them copies of "The Hidden History of

the Human Race," the abridged paperback edition of "Forbidden

Archeology." H.H. Danavir Goswami, director of the Rupa Nuga

Vedic College in Kansas City, Missouri, asserted, "The Board has

taken a bold and brilliant step in rejecting Darwin's

evolutionary theory as a scientific principle. Darwin bluffed the

world with his speculation and double talk, but the Kansas Board

of Education has called his bluff." Alternatively, in the mood of

poor sportsmanship, Assistant Science Professor Douglas Ruden

awarded the Board a ceramic green iguana, the 1999 Ig Nobel Prize

for Science Education. Outside a protestor paraded in a gorilla

suit with signs saying "KSBOE has made of joke of science" and

"Welcome to the Planet of the Apes." Afterwards national and

local media captured devotees and scientists engaged in fierce

debate.
