Guest guest
Little people - Vedic? I was driving through a town called Fayetteville, and it reminded me of the Fay, which means fairies, or the "little people." And thinking about it, there’s lots of interesting things about the fay, even in our books. For instance, here is this info about the "Sidhe." - "I looked at the survival of belief among the Celtic peoples of an invisible realm inhabited by Otherworldly beings known collectively as the Sidhe, or the Good People. This belief was once common throughout all the Celtic countries, in localised forms. The Sidhe are considered to be a distinct race, quite separate from human beings yet who have had much contact with mortals over the centuries, and there are many documented testimonies to this. Belief in this race of beings who have powers beyond those of men to move quickly through the air and change their shape at will once played a huge part in the lives of people living in rural Ireland and Scotland." Sidhe, huh? It certainly rings a bell, doesn’t it? Sounds like siddha, or the siddhas in Siddhaloka, doesn’t it? That probably because the word Sidhe does come from the Sanskrit "siddha." And by reading the above discription, we see that these "little people" had siddhic powers, to move quickly in air and change their shape at will, etc. We can see some connection between cultures, or how the sidhe originates from the vedic view of the world. We also have reason to believe that perhaps the "Sidhe" or fairies, are "gandharvas" in vedic terms. There is one purport in Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagavad gita, where Srila Prabhupada says "gandharvas" and then (fairies) in parenthesis. Some devotees may think that this was a transcribing error in the Gita. But I tend to think not. Gandharvas are dipicted to have wings. And as we know, fairies have wings too, so do the Christain angels. We might think that Gandharvas and angels and fairies are maybe the same thing, or else very related to each other. And we know that some entities from the upper planets have mystic powers to reduce their size, say, to the small size of fairies, and they can fly around at will. And so many of us have experience of flying around in our dreams. I do it constantly. And we’ve heard from Srila Prabhupada that dreams are collections of past experiences. Perhaps we did some of these things in past lives, who knows? ys Visoka dasa
