The best guess of the Encyclopedia Britannica places the

writing of the Vedas between 1500 and 800 BC(E). See:

Another source says the Vedas were originally thought to be from

7000 BCE to 2500 BCE, but now "most" scholars:

A third source I've dug up on the net for you provides

astronomical evidence that a verse from the Rig Veda

is from 6500 BCE: it observes a winter solstice at (Aries).

This sources presents various theories and tries to come

up with a timeline consistent with the evidence. (He

says 10,000 years old.)

So, it seems that estimates vary fairly widely. The

only thing we can be sure of is that it predates

Classical Greek Culture by a long time. :-)
