See: http://www.britannica.com/bcom/eb/article/9/0,5716,121169+2,00.html Another source says the Vedas were originally thought to be from 7000 BCE to 2500 BCE, but now "most" scholars: http://www.hronline.com/aryasamaj/vedicp.html A third source I've dug up on the net for you provides astronomical evidence that a verse from the Rig Veda is from 6500 BCE: it observes a winter solstice at (Aries). This sources presents various theories and tries to come up with a timeline consistent with the evidence. (He says 10,000 years old.) http://www.tamilnation.org/heritage/hindutimeline.htm So, it seems that estimates vary fairly widely. The only thing we can be sure of is that it predates Classical Greek Culture by a long time. :-) Bonnie Scott
