Does it exist in other society or culture? It is interesting to note that in American, if you kill or eat a dog or cat, you go to jail. Dogs and cats are the sacred cow of the west. The Vedic society was not so harsh. They would not throw you behind bars but no one wanted to hang out with you if you killed and ate dogs and cows.
