Guest guest
Alert reader Ramesh Agasthya informs us that the unqualified success of Sanskrit learning in Mattur village of Karnataka was inspired by the renowned Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt (One of the well known eight Mutts of Madhva Moola Samasthana of Udupi), who exhorted the villagers to revive their ancient traditions during his visit in the early eighties. The Pejavar Mutt Swamiji has taken pains to establish Vedic learning as it was in ancient times - the Poorna Prajna Vidyapeetha in Banglore is a shining example. At the same time, he has looked into the needs of the people today and has established many charitable hospitals, old age homes, and orphanages, not to mention schools etc. All this without a taint of corruption and undue publicity. It is high time that the role of such great Hindu leaders was highlighted by our media, which usually takes great pleasure in portraying most Hindu saints as depraved characters. It's extremely important that Indians be aware of the constructive and helpful efforts by such Hindu leaders to preserve and enrich our country's cultural traditions. My heartfelt appreciation and best wishes go out to Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt for his great contributions, and gratitude to Mr. Ramesh Agasthya for pointing out the facts of which I was not aware.
