Guest guest
Greetings! I have recently joined this list in hopes of learning something of Hinduism. My own background is standard american (read that as Xian but never belonged to any denomination. Became an athiest at age nine and entered a strange relationship with religion at 14 (more - or - less a "pagan", tho not into the "new-age" ...uh...philosophy . I've been mostly just listening to my instincts and trying to learn from other religions ever since. Big question: I've always been drawn to gods of wisdom (makes no difference which culture or time zone they come from) and picked up a statue of Ganesh a while back. The idol appears to have been buried (there's a reddish looking clay/sand mixture on its base and presumably inside it). I've asked about it, but no one knows what its significance (if any) is. Is this a custom? Cheers, Tom Douglas -- dougxul
