A CALL FOR PAPERS AND PARTICIPATION

"New Approaches to the Study of South Asia"

A symposium to be held as part of the

International Conference

on Contemporary Views on Indian Civilization

July 28 – 30, 2000

Stevens Institute of Technology

Hoboken, NJ 07030, USA

Sponsored by the

World Association for Vedic Studies, Inc.

(WAVES)

A Multidisciplinary Academic Society

DESCRIPTION

As one of the many symposia currently being organized for the upcoming

WAVES conference, the focus of "New Approaches to the Study of

South Asia" is on the history, methodology, critique and current

developments of the very field of South Asian Studies/Indology

itself.

While the

field of South Asian Studies purports to study the region of

India/Pakistan/Nepal/Bangladesh/Bhutan/Sri Lanka/Tibet/Afghanistan, this

forum is directly focused on studying, critically evaluating, and

improving the research methods of the very field of South Asian Studies

per se. The goal of this crucial symposium is to provide an

academic forum from which to critique the critics of South Asia. We

are seeking presentation proposals from scholars, professors and

academicians who are involved with new, original and cutting-edge

approaches to the study of South Asia in the fields of history,

philosophy, culture, religion, literature, Vedic studies, indigenous

sciences, sociology, medicine, economics, arts, political science,

women's studies, etc. We especially welcome papers that are focused

on epistemological, methodological and post-colonial issues. The

co-organizers of this New Approaches to the Study of South Asia symposium

are Frank Morales of the University of Wisconsin-Madison (U.S.A.) and

Klaus K. Klostermaier of the University of Manitoba (Canada).
