Somnath Temple

Location: 79 kms. from Junagadh

Famous for: One of the most sacred Shiva Shrines

Situated 79 Kms. from Junagadh and 25 Kms. from Chorwad, the

legendary Shore temple of Somnath is one of the twelve most sacred

Shiva Shrines in India. According to the legend, Somnath is as old as

creation, built by none other than the Moon God himself. Somnath was

destroyed and rebuilt several times. Mehmud of Gazni having heard of

its fabulous treasure, raided it in 1026 and carried away camel -

loads of jewels and gold.

 

How to get there :

 

Air : The nearest airport is a Keshod, 47 Kms. which is connected

with Bombay.

 

Rail : Veraval, 5 Kms. is a railway station.

 

Road : State transport buses and private luxury coaches connects

various centres of Gujarat.
