LEFT EAR - RIGHT EAR INITIATION

 

1 Initiation from the spiritual master (northern side)LEFT EAR (spiritual sky destination)

2 Gayatri (Initiation) mantra given through RIGHT EAR (destination pitrloka)

 

SB 4.25.51

The two ears are situated on the northern side and the southern side. The ear on

the southern side is very strong and is always anxious to hear about sense

enjoyment. THE EAR ON THE NORTHERN SIDE, HOWEVER, IS USED FOR TAKING INITIATION

FROM THE SPIRITUAL MASTER AND FOR GAINING PROMOTION TO THE SPIRITUAL SKY. THE

RIGHT EAR, OR THE EAR ON THE SOUTHERN SIDE, IS CALLED PITRHU, which indicates

that it is used for attaining the higher planetary systems known as Pitrloka,

BUT THE LEFT EAR, WHICH IS KNOWN AS DEVAHU, IS UTILIZED FOR HEARING ABOUT EVEN

HIGHER PLANETARY SYSTEMS, SUCH AS MAHARLOKA, TAPOLOKA AND BRAHMALOKA--OR YET

EVEN HIGHER PLANETS, SITUATED IN THE SPIRITUAL UNIVERSE, WHERE ONE BECOMES MORE

INCLINED TO BE PERMANENTLY SITUATED. This is explained in Bhagavad-gita (9.25):

yanti deva-vrata devan

pitrn yanti pitr-vratah

bhutani yanti bhutejya

yanti mad-yajino 'pi mam

SB 4.25.51

"Those who worship the demigods will take birth among the demigods; those who

worship ghosts and spirits will take birth among such beings; those who worship

ancestors go to the ancestors; and those who worship Me will live with Me."

One who is interested in being happy on this planet as well as after death

generally wants to be elevated to the Pitrlokas. Such a person can use the

right ear for hearing Vedic instructions. HOWEVER, ONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN

GOING TO TAPOLOKA, BRAHMALOKA, THE VAIKUNTHA PLANETS OR KRSNALOKA MAY TAKE

INITIATION FROM THE SPIRITUAL MASTER IN ORDER TO BE ELEVATED TO SUCH LOKAS.

 

SB 4.29.9 Talks Between Narada and King Pracinabarhi

Two eyes, two nostrils and a mouth--all together five--are situated in the

front. THE RIGHT EAR IS ACCEPTED AS THE SOUTHERN GATE, AND THE LEFT EAR IS THE

NORTHERN GATE. The two holes, or gates, situated in the west are known as the

rectum and genital.

 

SB 4.29.12 Talks Between Narada and King Pracinabarhi

The city called Apana represents engagement of the tongue in speech, and

Bahudana is the variety of foodstuffs. The right ear is called the gate of

Pitrhu, and the left ear is called the gate of Devahu.

The prescribed rules, as stated here by Narada Muni, are that one should

accept the mantra through a bona fide spiritual master and hear the mantra in

the right ear.

 

SB 4.25.50 P The Descriptions of the Characteristics of King Puranjana

The right ear is used for karma-kandiya, or fruitive activities. As long as

one is attached to the enjoyment of material resources, he hears from the right

ear and uses the five senses to elevate himself to the higher planetary systems

like Pitrloka. Consequently, the right ear

is here described as the Pitrhu gate.

 

71-08-18. Letter: Bhakta dasa

.... of Gayatri mantra. They should simply listen one at a time, privately,

through the RIGHT EAR and at the same time repeat each mantra, while reading it

from one paper.

71-09-24. Letter: Gaura Hari

.... Let each devotee hear the tape privately, one at a time, and through the

RIGHT EAR. They should have the paper in front of them and hear and repeat each

word....

71-09-24 Letter: Sukadeva

or Jayananda in Berkeley. Let Pavanadeva hear the tape privately and through

the RIGHT EAR. He should recite, after me, the words aloud. Beforehand you can

show him how to .

 

72-06-20. Letter: Stokakrsna

.... you have got a tape of me reciting Gayatri mantra through earphones into the

RIGHT EAR. I am enclosing the three sacred threads and copies of Gayatri mantra

herewith.

One thing is that the tape should be heard through earphones into the RIGHT EAR,

and the function should be held amongst the devotees only.

Note: Here Srila Prabhupada is showing us he as the empowered acarya sets the

precedents this is unique because there is NO TRADITION in the vedic culture

where a wife chants the the Gayatri mantra and the husband hears. Also hearing

the Gayatri mantra from Srila Prabhupada’s tape this is also unique

traditionally it is given by the acarya BUT Srila Prabhupada asked they simply

hear HIM chant FROM a TAPE. So those who say Ritvik---there is no precedent in

our vedic culture should understand SRILA PRABHUPADA IS THE ACARYA----HE SETS

THE PRECEDENTS!.We are not following some blind traditions we follow Srila

Prabhupada who set so many examples so that according to the time place and

circumstances we can function as a varnasrama institution.

EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE HAD NO GAYATRI MANTRA, STILL YOU ARE MORE THAN BRAHMANA.

I am enclosing herewith your sacred thread, duly chanted on by me. Gayatri

mantra is as follows:

ASK YOUR WIFE TO CHANT THIS MANTRA AND YOU HEAR IT and if possible hold a fire

ceremony as you have seen during your marriage and get this sacred thread on

your body. SARADIA, OR ANY TWICE-INITIATED DEVOTEE, MAY PERFORM THE CEREMONY.
