Guest guest
Suresh Pathania (Fremont, CA) Hindu Philosophy in Western World Are we ever going to get back our motherland's name back from India to Bharat? The citizens of the biggest democracy and the oldest 5000 year old culture are known as Indians and not Bharatvasis today. The countries, which came in to existence later, have gotten back their names, however we are still living in the colonial era. Look at Zimbabwe changed from Rhodesia, Sri Lanka changed from Ceylon, Myanmar from Burma, and many others. We should we ashamed of when some one calls us Indians and not Bharatvasis. We can expect this only from the BJP and not from Congress. So it should be either now or never. Some jerk translated Bharat Ka Sambidhan into Constitution of India. Don't we know names are not to be translated. It should have translated as constitution of Bharat. Same thing happened with the names of our ancient cities such as Dilli. If British people spoiled our names we are more stupid to accept them and not correct them. The ancient name of Delhi was Indra Prastham, but in the modern times it was Dilli. The name was changed to Dehli in Hindi, however later L and H letters in Dehli got swapped and became the current Delhi. Like I said names are not meant to be translated but we Bharatiyas feel proud when we call Delhi in an English sentence and Dilli or Dehli in Hindi sentence. The name Satluj river is still written as Sutlej. The name should we written as the sounds of the consonants and vowels make the word. So why Sutlej and not Satluj. Name of some cities such as Mussorie and Dalhousie should be turned back to the original town names. There must be at least some small villages there with some names. Those names should be given back to the appropriate English cities. Why do we call New Delhi and not Nai Dilli, or Nai Dehli or Nai Dehli. Did we forget Nai Dilli is in India and not in some English spoken country. We have thousands of Bharatiya Languages to choose the translation of New, then why we chose New and not Nai or one of the other meanings of Nai. Shame on us.
