Guest guest
US poll stalemate turns Laloo gleeful Calcutta, Dec. 11: Former Bihar chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav, whose scepticism about information technology is well known, sees the lingering stand-off in the US presidential election as a vindication of his point of view. The RJD chief, who claims to champion the cause of the socially and economically underprivileged, said the US presidential election had proved that computers cannot be trusted and one can depend on hand counts alone. "People say Laloo doesn't know IT. What is IT? Look at the United States elections. Where computer has betrayed, hand count has come good. Mistakes in computer counting are coming to light," he said. Yadav was speaking at a felicitation ceremony for former West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu at the Salt Lake stadium here on Sunday. "If counting had been done manually, the problems would not have arisen," he said of the over month-long tussle between US Vice- President Al Gore and Texas Governor George W Bush for the White House.
