Guest guest
Gujarat asks all schools to to RSS weekly Gandhinagar, Jan. 18: A circular by Commissionerate of Schools in Gujarat asking schools to to a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh magazine has sparked off a controversy in the State with Christian organisations taking objection to it and the government refusing to withdraw it. In the circular dated December 12, 2000, the District Education Officers in 25 districts have been asked to get the managements of secondary and higher secondary schools to to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh weekly Sadhana from the grants they received from the State government. The circular asks the District Educational Officers to inform the school managements to get in touch with Sadhana Prakashan Trust to arrange for the subscription of the weekly, described by it as containing materials of great literary value. While the State's Christian organisations have decided to lodge a formal protest with the State government on the issue, Gujarat Education Minister Anandiben Patel on Thursday dismissed reports about the withdrawal of the controversial circular. She said, "Why should we withdraw the circular. What's so objectionable about it. It is not binding on the schools in Gujarat to to it. If any school does not like the idea, it simply can ignore the circular instead of kicking up a row. After all, it is not for the first time that we are issuing such a circular."
