Guest guest
Press statement issued by Shri K. Jana Krishnamurthi, Vice-President, BJP February 01, 2001 "We are receiving information everyday that many more doctors from various parts of our country are planning to come over Gujarat. A small request to them. We surely appreciate their readiness to move into Gujarat for service of the affected people. Before they leave their places we request them to contact Gujarat Medical Association-Ahmedabad, Gujarat Government or BJP Office, Din Dayal Bhavan, Khanpur at Ahmedabad - 380 001 whose phone nos. are 079-5504525, 5504526, 5504533 so that their services can be effectively utilized in area where they are needed." Two days back section of the press reported that some anti-social elements are trying to take advantage of the misery of the people in certain affected areas of Gujarat by indulging in loot and carrying away articles from houses which have been vacated by panic-stricken people. I personally met Shri Harin Pandya, Minister of State for Home affairs and discussed with him about this matter today morning. Minister told me that such reports reached him also from one or two places and that immediate steps have been taken by his department and that such things will not get repeated anywhere. The Ministers are putting forth their best efforts and sparing none to see that relief works are kept at peak efficiency. If any where some deficiency is noticed it is to be attributed to human factor subjected to enormous shock and overwhelming circumstances. Still constant efforts are being made at every level in the Government to improve the efficiency and efficacy of its functioning especially under the present trying circumstances. Minister of State for Home could return to state secretariat past mid- night after attending to various matters connected with the relief work. A very senior editor of a leading English Weekly has been trying to get an interview with him. Ultimately the interview took place yesterday night at 1 AM. This can give a glimpse of the Minister's functioning. The medical fraternity has risen to the occasion in ample measure. Doctors from various states have spontaneously responded by rushing to Bhuj and neighbouring areas with necessary medicines and consignments. They have gone in their own vans. Very many precious lives could be saved by their timely help. Many have sent ambulances. Mata Amrutanand Mayi, the great spiritual leader from Kerala in her motherly benign blessing had sent a most modern well-equipped mobile operation theatre where six operations could be simultaneously done and the same was airlifted from Kerala to the affected area. That urgency for medical aid that was needed immediately on the occurrence of earthquake is coming down. The number of patients that require medical attention is becoming less in many affected areas. We are receiving information everyday that many more doctors from various parts of our country are planning to come over Gujarat. A small request to them. We surely appreciate their readiness to move into Gujarat for service of the affected people. Before they leave their places we request them to contact Gujarat Medical Association- Ahmedabad, Gujarat Government or BJP Office, Din Dayal Bhavan, Khanpur at Ahmedabad - 380 001 whose phone nos. are 079-5504525, 5504526, 5504533 so that their services can be effectively utilized in area where they are needed. Now the Gujarat Government will have to think in terms of long term medical attention in all the affected areas where many hospitals have been destroyed, doctors and nurses have been killed by the killer quake and medicines lay buried in debris. The batch of 150 BJP workers from each of the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan which are adjoining states of Gujarat will start arriving from tomorrow. They will be coming in their own vehicles, one vehicle for three persons, and will come equipped for three days stay with all necessities for themselves including drinking water and no possibility of bath to serve in affected areas for removal of debris, for removing dead bodies and dead carcasses for Antim Sanskar and for other relief work. They will work round the clock in the areas. After three days these batches will be replaced by fresh batches of 150 each. After three days, third batches will replace them. In this way 1250 BJP workers from these three states will help in expediting the debris cleaning etc. "Bhukamp Pidit Sahayata Samiti" is planning to provide tent accommodation for two lakhs people in affected areas to provide shelter to affected people till such time permanent buildings are got ready. Further details we will be able to give in the next two days. Many asked us as to how Pakistan has suddenly come forward to supply relief materials to affected people in Gujarat. While so many Countries spontaneously responded how can Pakistan opt out? We will be glad if he human considerations are the basis of this assistance, the same considerations can be allowed to influence in its other dealings with India. Are we expecting too much? Time will prove. (Dr. Ram Kripal Sinha) Office Secretary
