Guest guest
>From Our World Vedic Heritage, by P.N. Oaks, page 700: " Despite systematic destruction of the traces of pre-Islamic, Vedic culture among the Arabs, the Caliph, being informed that pre-Islamic, Arab poetry was still retained and recited by several Arabs who nostalgically recalled their Vedic past, they devised a diabolic plot to make the Arabs disgorge that cultural treasure. Repeated proclamations were sent out that the Calpihs wished, very magnamimously, to compile an anthology of all pre-Islamic Arab verse, and therefore, wanted all Arabs to turn in all such poems in return for gold coins. The bait was alluring to the impoverished Arabs. They assiduously collected all Vedic, Sanskrit, Arab poetry manuscripts concerning the pre-Islamic culture of Arabia and took them to the Caliph. Such repeated calls and offers brought in a large collection. Had that [ collection ] really been preserved and published, it would have been a very rich source of history. But all that collection was cunningly destroyed." Posted by Dharmapada
