Guest guest
The muslim rule in the South did not last for very long time. The damage done by them was quickly repaired by the Vijayanagar Kings. But still one can see broken statues, pillars etc in South Indian temples. As far as North India goes, only the temples which were not in use or worshipped during the muslim rule (the Kajuraho) were not destroyed simply because they were not seen (out of sight, out of mind?). On the other hand, the temples in Varanasi etc were razed to the ground by waves of religious zealots, the last of which was Aurangazeb. Thanks to our NCERT and other historians, none of as know the antics of these zealots except those of Akbar (deen e ilahi) and Shah Jahan (Taj Mahal). I too dismissed all these temple destruction theories until I saw the temples in Kashi and Mathura. The mosques there have hindu architecture till the roof above which there are muslim domes. This has not made me a muslim hater but showed me that there is truth in the stories of temple destruction
