Guest guest
Dear Friends, : At 07:32 AM 4/7/01 -0000, you wrote >>>>>>>>> Tamil and Sanskrit originated from the same source? By Peer Moohd I sometimes think that it could be true,,,in srilanka great fight was for 'sri' or 'thiru'..thinking that thiru is a pure tamil word,,, but 'thiru' has its root in the vedic sanskrit word 'thri' or 'thra' ,, the word thrisulam denotes a sacred thing ,not thirisulam,, <<<<<<<<<< Suulam was an ancient weapon. It was a very sharp spike made of iron with an iron shaft. It resembled the javelin of the Western countries. This weapon was used for impaling. One gruesome form of this type of weapon was the much dreaded 'kalzhu'. 'Kalzhu' impalement was also practiced by the Ancient Malays. In the Malay language, the process of imaplement is known as 'Bersula'. 'Sula' is the weapon. There were several varients of the suulam. The commonest variant was the 'muththalai chuulam' or 'muuvilai chuulam'. It had three heads. The Westerners called this weapon, the 'Trident'. The Greek god Poseidon, the god of sea, bears a trident. You can also see the the tutelary goddess Brittania bearing a shield and a trident.
